This has not been the best day of the year so far ... and it should coz it's my "ngau yat"or literally translated "cow's day" or the actual meaning Birthday! :p (Don't ask me why it's called "ngau yat" as my Chinese speaking friends have no idea either!)
Why has it been a bad day?
1. It took me blardy 30 minutes to get out of my condo this morning as the whole road turning into the LDP was stuck. Some idiots decided to ignore the red traffic light and the crossroad under the flyover was all messed up as cars were cutting in from every direction. Grrrrrr ...
2. Finally when I cleared that hurdle, I found that there was a massive jam going into town because some smart aleck decided to have a "raptai" for the city day parade which falls on 1st February. It took me blardy one and the half hours to reach office. Jam! Jam! Jam!
3. I am now having a blinding headache and all I want to do is go home and sleep.
4. I can't go home because I am supposed to be having my performance review today and my boss has yet to call me in.
5. I have a birthday dinner celebration at 8.30pm and I still have no idea if I can reach there on time due to point no. 4. If I don't get there on time, I might piss off my sister royally since she originally wanted to do it on 1st February but I insisted to have the dinner tonight. Sigh!
That's why it is not like any other day ... it's worse.
Now, on to happier thoughts. I am very touched and thankful to my friends and family.
Why?
1. I have been celebrating my "ngau yat" with friends and family since Saturday. There was the Saturday Shangri-la high-tea (thanks Mon), the Saturday Pangkor Fish house dinner (thanks L3), the Sunday Sunway condo joint dinner party (thanks siau gang and birthday boy Manny for doing the cooking) and the Monday The Ship dinner (thanks P1 & bro-in-law). And there's more to come in the next few days!!! :D
2. I have this funky new calendar on "365 Great Things About Getting Older", courtesy of the siau gang.
Today's great thing is: "There are only three ages for women in Hollywood - Babe, District Attorney, and Driving Miss Daisy. - Goldie Hawn"
Why is age always such a great bother for women? Why not men too? Bah!
3. A friend promised me a Balinese birthday massage at Puri Santhi. Yippee! (Thanks Val. Hehehe ...)
4. I received this really nice decorative candle from Tasmania. It's now in my display cabinet. (Thanks L3.) And a nice 5R photo frame for 3 pix in a row from IKEA. Just what I need to put up my Tanzania wild animal photos. (Thanks Mon.) And for all the other pressies that I have received and will be receiving soon (wink! wink! wink!), thanks folks, you're all so sweet. :D
5. I received many sms, email and messenger birthday wishes and also F2F (face to face) birthday wishes today. Thanks folks. I'm touched to be remembered. :)
Alrighty. Speech all done. Head feels better. But still no word from boss.
Back to work and the grindstone!

The thing about my life is that I have really interesting (read whacky) friends. Never a dull moment, eh? Hehehehe … In this case, I have been tasked with a heavy responsibility to create a personal ad for this friend, Kyle. And for the sake of his future, I dare not fail. (I shall ignore the fact that I had joked and volunteered for this during one of our trekking trips.) I hope I still have two friends after this. No regrets Kyle & Kyle’s coach. Regrets are for sissies! :p

The Project
When I first started blogging, the idea was to blog about my travels. But along the way, the project died down because it was such a huge undertaking. In any case, I promised myself I shall get right to it once I completed my studies. And so here they are.

Blogging is ...
Since I started blogging; and blogging regularly at that, I have been asked many times the amount of time I spent writing a post. Many thought that I could produce a post within a matter of minutes and at the drop of a hat. The truth is, conceiving a subject matter to write is simple (as I do have a lot of ideas running through my head at one point or another, and I have a lot to say) but putting it across is a lot more difficult. I do not want to end up with a “written diarrhoea” (as opposed to a verbal one). :p
It takes time to focus my thoughts and build my case, and then refine it into interesting reading. I try to choose my words with care. It is important to remain objective but if I am unable to be objective, then it is important for me to convey my point of view by building a logical case. Hopefully, I have been successful thus far. : ) The whole objective of writing something is to get the point across in a lively and interesting manner without bogging down into too much details and become overly verbose; which I think I am on the verge of doing now! :p
Well, that’s how I create my blog. It is really no rocket science. And of course, the whisperings of a muse in the wee hours of the morning helps! : ) So, why not jump on the blogwagon dear friends? It is a lot of fun! Besides, it is a therapeutic way of working off some of your frustrations and angst. Ha ha ha ….

Not that I believe everything the results yield but I am interested to see how the quizzes are set and how characteristics/ categories can be derived from them. I was testing out these quizzes by putting in different answers. One thing for sure, there is never really anything absolutely negative said about any specific characteristics. Guess these quizzes abide by the rules that people only want to hear good things about themselves! : ) Any truth in them? Some are pure blarney of course! And others ... *shrugs* ... perhaps the questions do reflect more intellectual thoughts ... your guess is as good as mine though as to the accuracy and authenticity of them. However, any similarity to reality are most likely coincidences and of course, the fact that we want to believe what we read especially if they are flattering ones. Hahaha …

Earlier this year, as part of understanding team dynamics, I had the occasion to attend the Myer Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) training. We did a lengthy test answering numerous close ended questions. I think it was about 50-60 questions in all. The results it yielded was extremely interesting. And quite similar to the readings I received several years ago when I did the same test. Running through the questions, you would notice that there are many that cross check against earlier questions (which is very unlike the above). In any case, I neither have the expertise nor the depth of understanding to further explain the details in this post. Do I believe in the results? Suffice to say that it hits close to home. The good thing about this is that you are more aware of your personality traits. There’s no right or wrong, good or bad traits. They are just ~ our strengths and weaknesses. And being more aware of them, we can then consciously augment the positive traits and mute the negative ones. Personally, I believe that no matter how much we want to hide or put a brave “face” to the world, it is very important we know and is aware of who we are and not live in denial. In short, lie to the world if you must but never lie to yourself. You are what you are. Only when you know and understand yourself, can you then improve upon that and deal more effective with other personality types.

The Riddle
“What is greater than God but more evil than the devil;
the poor has it but the rich needs it;
and if you eat it, you will die?”
This riddle was posed to me by a friend over dinner today. And I fear I am going to bed with the thought swirling in my head. My friend does not have the answer to it too as she was asked the question by her cousin-in-law this morning. He refused to tell her the answer. I’m glad I am not the only one who is going to lose sleep over this tonight. :p The cousin-in-law mentioned that when this riddle was posed to children and teenagers, majority of the children got it right. The result of the survey itself shows that the answer is actually very simple but as we grow and mature, our minds get so complicated that we forget that the most obvious answers and solutions are indeed the simplest ones.
So over to you … get cracking! And may you too lose some sleep over this … Misery loves company. Hahahaha … :P

Washing machine
With each passing moment, I am more and more convinced that washing machine IS the greatest invention of mankind! : ) You must pardon me my glee with this new “toy” that I finally owned after all these years of using the traditional method of hand washing my clothes! :p
Please allow me this few moments in cyberspace to rhapsodise over my new found love. What has the washing machine done for me? In the last hour plus, the washing machine has helped me wash two loads of laundry while allowing me time to spend on my other love ~ blogging! In the last few weeks, I have no fear of going to the gym more frequently as THE washing machine once again came to my rescue. Recently, I went on another trekking expedition and came back with another load of absolutely soiled laundry. But never fear. My trusty washing machine is here! In a matter of minutes, my dirty smelly laundry became clean and fragrant clothes. And all I need do is load the machine and hang the clothes!
Thus, I stand by my statement; “washing machine IS the greatest invention of mankind!” Now, if only mankind can invent a house cleaning machine where all I need do is push a button and let it run on its own. A robot like R2D2 or CP3O would be a great help! : )
